here we go
Hi and welkom to this brand new blog. My name is Bert Stephani and I’m a professional photographer based in Belgium. I didn’t study photography at school but learned a lot of what I know from generous people who shared their knowledge in person or on the internet. This blog is my way to give something back.
I’ve been blogging for about a year and a half in my own language. If you understand Dutch, check it out here. Blogging got me some interesting contacts and fantastic friends. It also makes me stand still for a minute and think about technical aspects of photography. The feedback I’ve been getting makes me a better photographer too. So please don’t hold back on the comments.
I still have to do some work on the design of this blog and my English website www.bertstephani.com is also a work in progress. I’ll try to improve the site and blog step by step.
I’m sorry if my writing is an insult to the English language. I’ll do my best not to make too many mistakes. Don’t expect a blogpost a day from me. I just don’t have time for that. I’ll probably recycle some articles from my Dutch blog, but there will be also a lot of new stuff.
We’ll see how it grows.

I just found your work on Flickr and I’m looking forward to keeping up with the new blog!
Can’t wait for your blog entries. I like your work. Thank you for spending your personal time with your blog. I’m sure we will all learn from your experiences.
Many thanks!
Frank
thanks Zach and Frank. I’ll do my best to put up some interesting stuff now and then.
Hi Bert, I saw episode 1 of Confessions of a photographer on youtube. Excellent stuff. I can’t wait for the next episode!
thanks James!
Thanks Bert…love your English site. It will be a regular read.

Just wanted to say that besides the funny spelling of “Welcome”, I haven’t seen much evidence that you are anything but a native English speaker. Your photography is great, and I look forward to learning much from you.

Found your blog via strobist today. Love the work you do! Thanks for sharing and for the great video!
I am looking forward to more posts and hopefully more video’s from you. A great site passed on through the Strobist site.
I am glad to find this site (thanks Strobist) and see your work! I really find your work inspiring. I am living in Woluwe St. Pierre. We really should think about a local strobist get-together!
Cheers – Ken
Very nice.
I’m in Luxembourg, so I know what you mean about not waiting for the sun. I recently bought an SB-24, now you’ve given me some ideas on what to do with it.
Your responses have been overwhelming. I will try to post some new stuff as soon as possible. You’ll probably have to wait a little longer for a new video. I some more images and video from the shoot with Kim but I need to finish some work for clients before I can start editing the video.
Keep your comments and suggestions coming, it helps me to focus on the things you like.
And yes, we should do a Belgian-Luxembourg-Netherlands strobist meeting. It would be hard to fit into my work and family scedule, but I’d love to meet.
Great blog! I saw your video on strobist and liked the idea behind it. About your english, you sound fine!
Please post more. Good stuff! Have tried shooting in shade but the canopy results in a leaf pattern across my model’s face?
Thanks Samuel and Paul.
@paul: leaf patterns can be a pain, just find some place with a dense canopy or make someone hold something over the model to block the light from above.
Hi Bert!
Don’t worry too much about your English. I live in the United States and people here don’t speak or write as good as you do!
Thanks Elliot
Just a big thank you. I love your attitude to photography, friends, family and life and your great kindness to share with us all. I think you’re are an inspirational human.
Please keep it up.
thx Simon
