We’re Back
Some may say that I should keep this blog stricktly business related. But since there’s no real difference between ‘Bert the photographer’ and ‘Bert the private person’, I don’t see why I shouldn’t throw some family holiday pics on this blog. I’ve got nothing to hide (except maybe for that ride home in a police car when I was 15) and I feel that my personality is also part of my business. If you don’t like cheesy family pics, just don’t look at them
The weather during the first three days of our trip wasn’t very nice. It was chilly, foggy and rainy all day long.
We all like to be outdoors so much that the rain couldn’t stop us. Maya (almost 3) and Kobe (4) really need space to run, jump and shout.
Even Noa (almost 2 months) likes to go for a stroll.
Usually I’m not a big fan of strong colours, but I couldn’t resist the combination of the coloured kayaks in the background and Maya’s pink pants under the muted light of the cloudy sky.
When it rained too hard, there were lots of indoor adventures available. My wife wasn’t too keen on the rope bridge but the kids just loved it.
A large subtropic swimming complex is unresistable too, so we went for a swim every day.
Being a scuba diver myself, I love the fact that my kids love being in the water and observe the marine live in some cool underwater fish tanks.
The last few days, the skies cleared and although it wasn’t exactely summer, we got some beautifull late afternoon sunlight.
My lovely wife Nancy, doesn’t really like posing but she just looks so beautifull to me.
My parents went with us on this holiday. They like spending time with the kids. Having three small children can be sometimes a bit too busy for my wife and I. But with two extra adults, it’s a lot easier to have some quality time with each of the kids and eachother.
Kobe keeps my dad young and fit by organising about 500 races every day.
Some say my mom looks like she could be my sister rather than a grandmother.
A week is way too short for a holiday but it’s long enough to make my to do-list and mailbox explode.

Wow these photos are really great, I like the grandpa vs. son race photo the most. And there far from being cheesy. I think I’ll take your post processing with that vignette and b/w as an inspiration for some family pics next time.
Christian.
btw I found your blog through the strobist site and that Glamour light video.
Thanks Christian,
I can’t help but to love vignettes because they often focus the attention on the subject.
Thanks for sharing them – I enjoy seeing slices of people’s lives, as it gives you a taste of what makes them who they are. And as Christian pointed out, they’re not cheesy, they’re intimate and caring.

Thanks Norby,
I also prefer blogs that give some insight in who the (wo)man behind the pictures/words is.
Great pics, and hey, its your blog, post what you want on it! I, personally, am glad you did. I really like the variety of shots you take, and the tips and tutorials are excellent. Great work.
Thanks Ron, I see it the same way as you do.
