Confessions of a Photographer – Episode 6

I hadn’t posted a video in while, so here’s a new one. Everyday I get questions about my gear and why I use it. So I made this video about what’s in my camera bag.

I’m planning on making a video about the contents of my lighting bag and some other gear soon. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for sharing details of the contents of your camera bag. It’s always interesting to see what photographers have in their bag, and the reasons why.

Interesting post, even for Nikon users … I see that some lenses are labeled. Any reason for that?

Thanks, Bert! I’m looking forward to the next episode since I’m pretty curious about lighting equipment these days. Maybe your equipment won’t meet my requirements, since you are a professional photographer, whereas I have to act in accordance with my hobby budget. :-P
But it’s still inspiring to get an idea of what you do and what use for your shootings.

    Cheers,
    Ben

    Thank you for sharing this!
Why didn’t you like the 24-70mm on the 1Ds?

I’m wondering that too… why don’t you like the 24-70 on the 1DsMII?
I will also agree with the Sandisk comment. I haven’t had any problems with them (Extreme/Ultra) at all but have had some issues with other brands.

    Thanks for sharing!!

    Thanks

@Richard, Jonas: I like the 24-70 much better on the 1Ds mkII (full frame) than on the 1D mk III (1.3 crop). On the FF it has a more extreme wide angle and the ‘look’ of the pictures is just more beautiful to my subjective eye.

    @Jurgen: always label your gear!

Is that a bottle of Tabasco sauce that appeared on the table after the batteries?

Useful. What camera bag is all that stuff carried in?

Also, what tripod do you use?

    Thanks

    Bert:

I just found your work on the Strobist and Youtube – amazing. I’m still coming to grips with all of the capabilities (and restrictions) of working with small speedlights in the outdoor environs – but you’ve shown me what a great photographer can do with such things. Lookin forward to seeing more of your “Confessions . . .” series – keep’em comin’!

Hey Bert. Nice video. Cool to see you can find some time in between all the work.

We didn’t got a shot from a top view on the bag. How you fit your gear, how you handle it when carrying your bag and need to switch lenses. More info is always welcome.

  19. April 28, 2008 at 05:15 PM

    Thanks

@Pieter: I forgot to mention a lot of things. But that way I keep having subjects for new video’s ;-)

    Hi Bert!

Just found your blog and flickr photostream via youtube.

I want to thank you for your wonderful videos and blog. Not many photographers today bother themselves with explaining anything about their to a beginner photographers – and I guess these are who you target your videos & blog at.

The photos are really nice and the ability to see how some of them are done is a real insight sometimes. But there is a lot of post-processing in your photos. Maybe devote some of the future videos or blog posts to that? Some of your photos contain really nice colors and it would be really interesting to discover how that’s done, too.

Anyway, thank you very much for your effort! Really worth it!

    Hi Bert,

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. It really helps that you explained how you used each of your stuff, especially the 70-200/2.8. Really helps me (all of us) learn! :)

    Thanks!
