Confessions of a Photographer – Episode 7
Would you like to know where the creative process I wrote about has lead me? Here’s part one of the shoot with Erika, Ake en Frederik.

This has been a good exercise for me. I’ve been looking for directions I like to evolve my style into. The pictures in these series may not give a clear image of that evolution but for me some things are becoming a bit more clear.

I can see a change in your style, it’s slight, but it’s there.
One thing I love about style is that you can never really vocalize it…..It’s just something you know is there.The mixture of lighting, what a photographer looks for and mood all come together in a great mash up.
Loved the video, and of course the shots you’ve taken!
Just one thing I’ve been wanted to ask you, why the change in your wordpress template? This one feels so empty…

@c3l50: the previous design squeezed landcape pics. This one still has to be customized when I find some time (probably in 2056).
@Alim: that shot was with 100% sunlight, no flash (yes I do that sometimes)
@Ales: For these pics I used a Vivitar 285HV (can be found new on eBay) or a 580EX II. Armando is right about the Pocketwizards and gave a good ling.
@John: The fisheye (peleng) was stolen in Valencia a while ago. I replaced it with a 15mm canon fisheye and a full frame camera though
@Jonathan: I was the client here. I do one of these shoots every two months or so, to learn and work on my style. And usually the work is rewarded with a portfolio picture or two.
@Bernard: I should tell the teachers that used to tell me I was no good at anything, show your comment. I bet they never thought I would become classroom material

I have a question, do you do any post processing to the pictures or are all your pictures straight out of the camera?
@Wayne: just play around with the color channels to get the desired effect.
@Moishe: I’ll send you a mail, looks interesting.
@Armando: There’s some postprocessing involved but I try to get the basic look right in camera, so I only have to worry about a few details in post.

it’s easy to make snoots and grids yourself but you can buy them too. A CTO, CTB and green gel should get you started.

Very nice work, very subtle. I wonder if you have any comments with regards to my lighting technique…pls check out Http://www.rfgartphotography.com under the section “Wildflowers”. I use a Qflash T4d unit with my Kodak DCS Pro SLR mostly with a Nikkor 17-35mm lens for dramatic effect, in combination with 2 more Nikon Speedlight 800’s. for fill. I try to find a balance between dramatic poses and lighting and the colors the natural setting offers me..Any “pointers” are appreciated…
