Holiday Pics II

Almost a month ago, I showed you a little preview of our holiday pics. It didn’t take that long to process the pictures but I spent some time trying to produce something a little more special than the typical slideshow.

I’m curious about what you guys think of this combination of photography and live audio.

Please use the “embed” tag as well, because in firefox I can’t see the video.

The video is incredibly original and fun. The pieces of live audio creates a really inmersive atmosfear, and the music is pretty OK, though I’d have faded it out during the live audio clips instead of muting it completely in the first part of the video. Great photographs, by the way :)

    Bert,
This is wonderful! You did a great job matching the music & sounds to the photos. It really helps to tell the story.

I think by adding a new ’sense’, you engage the viewer in a whole new way.

    Nicely done!!

    Very good production!

How did you record the audio? Did you use a video recorder and extracted the audio?

What application do you use to make such a amazing productions?

    Congrats.

    Bert,
Great set of images, I love the low viewpoint you use with the kids on the moving walkway.

I have just started trying something similar by recording ambient sounds when travelling abroad and mixing it with music to make shows to play back on my DVD player at home.

I am using an Edirol R9 recording device and using Audacity to do the sound editing.

Amazing, I really enjoy it. “Live audio” or recorded live really adds to the experience

Hi Bert! Unfortunately it says: “Sorry, this video ist unavailable”

  12. September 05, 2008 at 11:19 AM

    thx

@D: I guess the Edirol is a smarter looking version of my Zoom H2 :-)

@Steffen: it works just fine here, try again or go straight to the vimeo page http://www.vimeo.com/1657987

    Hey Bert,

It’s not working for me? I’ve tried Safari and IE on PC as well as Safari on Mac Book Pro? It does the Vemeo intro bit for about 2 seconds then nothing? The link above in the comments is not working either.

    Let me in!!! ;-)

    Cheers,
    Duncan

Water + Kids + Sand + Camera = YIKES! How on earth did you avoid ruining your equipment?

The audio clip idea was fantastic. I think you could have picked out some better music…. it just didn’t seem to go with the pictures.

    Great project. A+

    Great !

I am also just using video to show my pictures before I go through the wall editing process that well, can take…some time.
So it’s not as good as yours because my goal is to have a very fast process :

FYI : I’m using Firefox and FlashPlayer9 under Linux and I can see the video without problem.

Nice work but a little bit long.

    Great work, Bert!!!

I really enjoyed the ambient sounds added to the video and I thought the music was fine, also.

I have not done much in video production lately, but with this inspiration I will in the near future.

    Thanks again!

@Duncan: Vimeo allows high quality (even HD) video but it seems to have some hiccups from time to time. Glad you could watch it eventually.

@Brian: My 1D mkIII can go just about anywhere and I used an underwater housing for my compact camera.

@Ciccio: we where actually in Mallorca, Spain, but that song was one of the favorites amongst our kids. I agree it’s too long for a general audience but I made it for my family in the first place.

@Daniel: Nice to hear you’ve got inspired by it.

Very nicely done. I wouldhowever break down the video into 3-4 smaller videos so that they are more pieces than the whole cake at once ;-)

    Love to see more sometime.

I really like the concept of showing your slide show with live audio in the background, it’s a really interesting concept, maybe i’ll try it one day.
