Confessions of a Photographer – Episode 8
Edited, did the voice over’s and put in on YouTube. Finally I can present you episode 8 of Confessions of a Photographer
More pictures:
I’d like to thank Brendan Conboy who kindfully offered some songs I could use for my video’s. Thanks Brendan, I really appreciate it.
A big thank you to Ake and Frederik for their assistance and shooting the video. And a big kiss to Erika for going with even my craziest ideas.
Hopefully it was worth the long wait.

Very nice Bert! Great lighting.
When cloning out the light stand, did you use a masking technique (using a photo without a person to bring in the forest details) or did you use tools like the spot healing or clone stamp? Just curious…
Also, was there a lot of flare going back to the lens on that wide shot?
Great job!
Congratulations for the vieo Bert, I like it!
This is such a great set, I especially enjoy the last few!!
Bert,
Thanks for this – very clear explanations and a great set of images.
As for the ‘grid’ you mention – I assume it’s attached to an off camera flash? Is is something you made? If not, where can I get one?
Thanks again
Dave
Hi Bert,
finally the video is arrived!! I’m waiting for it!! It involve me to experiment with umbrella outdoor, in fact I use it only indoor at the moment as the main diffuse light.
Thank you!!
For Dave: I made a wonderful grid spot using black drinking straws, cutting them to 2,5 cm. lenght and glue into a cardboard. The drinking straws are honeycomb disposed. The cardboard was well cutting in order to mount it over the head of the flash and your grid spot is done!!
If I well remember there is a good tutorial in Strobist…
Bye!!
The last few shots are really great. They are so soft, and you did that only with natural light. Can you explain how you get them so soft (is it post processing i PS?)?
Thanks for this video Bert. It’s always great to see what you get up to. Really enjoy them.
Hi Bert, just stumbled across your page on YouTube, your latest one in particular is just stunning, I consider it quite the privilege to see into your world
Thanks for sharing, hope to see more soon.
I like these litle videos you make Bert.
But the backgrundmusic gives me the creeps. I don“t know why really, it just does.
Anyhow, the video and the pics you make are very nice. Keep up the good work and “feed” us with more videos in the near future..
//Daniel
Bert, I always enjoy your videos and even more your fantastic work. I look forward to more wonderful videos.
Bert,
Your photos are amazing. Keep up the good work
Ovidiu
thanks a lot for the many comments
@alim: clone stamp was my friend on this one but I should have thought about doing a pic of just the background. That would have saved me some work. No flare thanks to the grid
@Dave: the grid is a diy flash attachment (cardboard, black straws and lots of glue), check out Rui’s site http://lightingmods.blogspot.com/ for a better looking version of it
@Lars: I’ve softened them up just a tiny bit but not much because there was no direct light hitting Erika. The soft light came from everywhere.
@Daniel: In the ideal world I could use music from my cd-library. I wouldn’t even mind paying a little for it but until someone finally resolves the rights issue on music in internet video’s, I’ll have to do with rights free music. That said, I actually like the song Brendon kindly let me use.

I enjoy watching your videoes. I would be absolutely amazing if you could put them out as a podcast with video, so I could take them with me on my Ipod.

Lars, I’m looking into ways to get the vids up as a podcast.
OMG!.. What an insane set!!!
I wish I could learn some of your post-processing skills.
I really like the subtle adjustments versus heavy-postprocessing..
Bert,
Thank you for taking the time to share your skills with everyone. I really enjoy the videos. They give great insight into your thought process and technique. This has been really helpful in my growth as a photographer. That being said, keep producing the videos as I have much more to grow!
As for the grids, I use black corrugated plastic. It is also known as cloroplast or plastic sign material.
Excellent! I put it on my own blog!
Tx for the great episode,
Can you give us some info about the lenses you used ?
