Mega Maya

Maya turned four yesterday and that asked for a family party.
The birthday girl was initially a bit blown away by all the attention and the gifts. But it didn’t take long before she got into an unwrapping frenzy (with some help of her brother).

She got a baby doll that laughs, cries and burps like real. Thanks but we already have a live version of it ;-)

Last night, Maya got into our bed at a bit past midnight with that doll. She kept us awake for half an hour and we couldn’t find a way to switch her off (that makes it a very lifelike doll I guess). In the end we had to put the doll in another room.

Mega Mindy is a local superhero and as one of her biggest fans Maya was really pleased with a Mega Mindy costume.

The birthday cake candles must be still in one of the moving boxes, so we used tea lights as stand-in’s.

Another Mega Maya shot, this time with the mask.

Noa got really jealous of all this superhero stuff and took her chance when Maya left the mask unattended for a few seconds.

Happy birthday, my sweet little princess!!

How perfect is that curl in your daughter’s hair! I’m sure stylists would be jealous. Happy birthday to her.

Thanks for the blog it is great I really enjoy reading it. I only wish my casual snapshots could be half as good as yours!

Let me say one thing Bert: I envy you! on the good way, of course :-) You have everything a man needs to be happy. And you deserve it.
Happy birthday to your daughter, you have a lovely family.

By the way, let me say that you inspired me, a year ago, i couldn’t care less about strobes and lighting (natural light, all the way!) and now i have 3 flashes and i couldn’t be more happy. you opened my mind, and it all started when i saw your (I guess, it was the second episode) confessions on youtube, and i was amazed by the beautiful pictures your were making. Now i’m boiling with cool ideas and it’s all your fault :)

If any day you come to visit Portugal, let me know ;)

    Keep inspiring us all Bert

    Thx guys,

@vincent: just natural light or flash on camera (bounced) and balanced with the ambient. Glad the strips work for you.

@Dave: I love her curls too.

@Lourenco: I know that I’m one hell of a lucky bastard :-) I’m happy that I got you converted to flash.

Awesome Bert, these posts are the gold dust, the tech stuff is the substance but these are where the magic’s at.

You deserve what you’ve got, material and emotional.

    Kindest regards
    Duncan

    thx guys

@Duncan: Photography is my passion, but my family is my life. Thx man

@Jahangir: I think I used the 50mm on a few pics but most of them where indeed done with the 24-70. Not my favorite lens but perfect for this kind of work.

@Jose: We used to do different chair decorations for every birthday but this one was such a hit that the kids insist on having the same.
