Nice. I have recently bought a macro flash (not a ring flash technically, so no circles) and I have tried a few portrait shots with it, but I am very unexperienced with that so I definitely need to work on it.. Macro is still my niche.
Your photo (of Kobe) looks quite natural even with the direct flash, it's pretty.. and I have no idea how you accomplish that =D The first one looks very nice too, and very different from Kobe. Nice dark feel.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Ziet er mooi uit Bert. Zo te zien met een groot diafragma gewerkt bij je zoontje (klop dit?). Ik gebruik ook wel eens een ringflitser (Bowens), maar krijg nauwelijks de mooi rondjes in de ogen.

@Tony: I'm pretty sure I'll use it in combination with other lighting most of the time. Not a big fan of the typical ringflash look.

@Uwe: My cams & flashes can use the focus light with the off-camera shoe cord. I'll see if I can find some time to make a bracket.

@ Bert: sure, turning the flash around is feasable, but then I would change the geometry of the bracket (turning it for 90 degrees and other stuff). Take a look at the manual of your flash, mine doesn't fire the (red) focus light if connected via cable. Have fun and keep up the good work.

I use a ringflash from time to time and i really like the look on headshots. I tend to use it with other lighting as well. The one thing I don't like is the shadow outline but it is easily fixed by keeping them farther from the background. Keep up the great work Bert.

Thanks guys. I'm also very eager to explore the possibilities in depth.

@Uwe: I was already thinking of making some kind of bracket. I may steal some of your ideas ;-)
One thing I would certainly change is to attach the flash with the focus light and sensor to the front. Using an off-camera cord, that would allow you to use TTL and the focus assist light.
