Recharged
A few days ago I read something that I found to be very true: “the problem with devices that have great battery life is that you forget to recharge them”. I’m not a device but my battery life is usually pretty good. The passion for photography and the fantastic people I get to work with give me so much energy. But even the best batteries get drained eventually and that’s exactly what happened to me in the last month before our family holiday. I just had been working to hard for too long.
But spending two weeks under the French sun with my family completely recharged my energy supply. I didn’t think much about photography at all. I made about the same amount of pictures in two weeks as I normally do during a 2-hour shoot. The only DSLR we took, was our 450D but I shot about 90% of all the pictures with my small digicam (often in the waterproof housing). I usually carry at least one camera with me but this time I only took it with me a couple of times and you know what: I really enjoyed that mindset of not having to capture every moment. I made enough nice memories of this great vacation and that’s all that’s matters. Here are just a few snaps:

My goal for the future is to recharge my batteries a bit more often and at the same time avoid the memory effect (my batteries are from before the Lithium-Ion age).
Brilliantly put Bert
Simple and clear like your photography.
The last shot of you and your young child in the pool sums up everything you say.
The look on each of your faces just shows that you shouldn’t have missed that moment for the world.
Now that’s pure photography: beautiful and with that human touch most of us tend to forget.
Next time in France call me if you want a guide
