The 50/50 Project – Day 13-20

Here is day 13-20 from my 50/50 project. It’s been a busy week and I really struggled with the project for most of the days.

When I started this personal project, I did expect it would be hard on some days but I didn’t anticipate the difficult days to turn up so soon. The previous week I’ve been to London and visited the traffic control tower but at the moment I’m spending most of my days at home postprocessing, writing, doing paperwork, finishing up projects, … All important stuff but not really visually stimulating. I can hardly take screenshots all day. We also entered the last big phase in the construction works on our house (new roof on the house) which requires me to be home most of the time. There’s a lot to photograph in this daily routine but I start to feel that I did it all. Don’t mistake a “desk period” for a quiet one, lots of deadlines to meet. So it’s not like I have the time to schedule photo trips and TFCD shoots.

It is to be expected that a project like this puts some strain on your daily life and I’m fine with that but not to the point where it disturbs my family life. So sometimes I put the camera away on what is probably the best moment of the day to take pictures.

But you know what, I don’t care. In fact, I’m happy with these difficult days. These are the times when I grow the most as a photographer. I have to improvise, look for another angle on something I’ve shot many times before or go out at 11pm because I haven’t made a decent picture yet that day. I’m perfectly fine with some bad picture days as long as they push me forward as a photographer.

    hey, you’re still doing great!

I started mine too a few days ago then suddenly forgot to continue. I guess this is the most difficult part of a personal project, continuing it up to the finish line.

    Bert

What is the tune that plays on this video?
    It compliments it beautifully.

That is why photography is art. It is creativity, inspiration. Almost any one can make snap shoot. But your pictures are created. And the artist sensitivity is not always the same. I really admire your work, and there are many more like me, waiting for the next video or photo show.
    Keep up,
    And thanks for sharing,
    Luis

    Bert,

I enjoy seeing you complete this project, but I would very much enjoy seeing these photographs in a slower version of the slideshow or a click-through version.

I don’t feel as though I get a chance to really “see into” the photographs very well in such a short slide show.

    Thanks for the feedback

@Pepin: it’s not like I’m forgetting the project but it is sometimes hard to find the time and motivation to pick up the camera.

@Marc: I always credit the music used at the end of the video, take a look there.

@Raymond: I deliberately made the pictures flash by a bit (too) fast. It just feels right for this project not to take too much attention to one picture but rather create a feeling with a series of pictures. But as we speak, I am uploading some of my favorites to Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/98609590@N00/sets/72157622215774208/

@Jason: Thx, I know about the cute kids, I made them myself ;-)

Its great to see your work all the time but this 50/50 project just blows me away! Working in an office I see how much more interesting, unpredictable, beautiful and exciting your life it. It could just be my outlook, but after looking at your results I just feel inspired. Maybe its possible to see art and beauty everywhere one goes or maybe 9-5 closes more possibilities than thought.

Looking forward to more of your work and successful completion of 50/50.

Hi Bert, I’m a great fan of your work. I think my composition sucks so your project is providing me with some great inspiration!

I also think your YouTube videos are brilliantly put together, mind me asking what software you use?

    Thx

@Daniil: These days I spend most of my time in my office too. I’m sure there’s stuff to shoot wherever you are. Also, I often shoot only a couple of minutes a day.

Very good pictures. In my opinion, each post is better than the previous one. I’m looking forward to seeing the next pack of 50/50.
