The 50/50 Project – Day 33-50
Here it is, finally, the final part of my 50/50 project. The pictures have been processed for months but I just didn’t find the time to put the last slideshow together.
I must admit that the last two weeks of the project were the hardest, I really had to keep pushing myself to make some pictures and on some days I didn’t produce anything that’s worth keeping really. But then again, that’s probably the most interesting part of the project.
After the last day of the 50/50 project I was relieved that it was over but much to my surprise I didn’t feel like putting away the 50mm lens for 6 months. I use it now much more than before. My 70-200 probably saw most action before, but now the 50 is my most used lens.
I’ve learned so much from this project. If I would put it all on the blog, I’d probably have to rename it to the 50/50 blog. I was also pleasantly surprised that so many people gave feedback and got inspired by the project to start their own personal project. A few people even suggested to make a book out of it and I’m considering to do just that. My idea would be to to show my 50 favorite pictures and tell you 50 things I’ve learned. Let me know if you would consider buying a decent priced (e-)book with that kind of content.
Thanks for all your support on the 50/50 project.
I would buy it! as long as the information is useful and the pictures inspiring, that’s a sure buy.
It’s a refreshing perspective, and worth take a look.
Kind regards
well done, Bert! Thx for sharing these photos with us.
Yes, I’d buy an e-book if it is decently priced. 5 Euros might be a sound barrier for me, if the content is good and the book has a fair amount of pictures and text (like 55 pages with 50 photos and 50 short texts (lessons learned).
If the e-Book has more pages (aka more text), the fair price might go up to 8 or even 10 Euros.
An e-Book price equals a third of a paperbook price for me, so in paper a 5 Euro e-Book would have to be sold for 15 Euro in Paper (bookshop).
Go ahead, write the book and learn new things.
Have a great new year,
Carsten / Germany
Great photos, Bert. A book sounds like a great idea! You’ve inspired to do my own 50/50 project, which I will be starting in about a week. These types of project are important. They keep you sane and allow you to keep striving for creativity. Thanks for sharing.
Thx for the input
Hi Bert, happy New Year!
Again inspiring vision, thanks for sharing it with us!
Regarding a book, I’d prefer a real book. There are some (probably) interesting ebooks out there, but I usually hesitate to buy them – because of the medium. I would like to pay double or triple the price to get a printed book, esp if there a photos involved. One could maybe print it oneself, but … printing pictures is not so easy if one wants decent quality.
So in short, I’d like to buy it (printed) for even 20 Euros, just to be able to browse thru the pictures at my own speed (as I already said some time ago, internet speed slideshows are a bit fast for me). I don’t know if I could bring me around to buy an ebook version; Carsten’s wrote sound points about it that I agree upon. E.g. Davids DuChemin ‘TEN’, 32 p for $5 and maybe similar content, is really just at/beyond my accepted price tag. Seems to be 1 Euro per 10 pages
Cheers, Fini
P.S. I don’t know if there is even the question about a printed book – and I don’t know if print on demand books are printed well enough for picture reproduction.
Thank you very much for sharing! I’ll also starting a 50/50 project starting… today
Very beautiful shots you’ve captured!
Glad the 50mm f/1.4 has another fan. That lens is on my camera 95% of the time I’m shooting.
Great shots. Also, glad to see you admit that some days just didn’t work.
Hi Bert,
All the picture on this project are great. You are a real inspiration for many photographer and aficionados. After you started this I try more and more my 50 mm lens and also it is the lens that I have use the most.
Thanks, and I am looking forward to learn more from you,
Luis
I would definitely buy the book !! I love what you did with this project.
I would have an interest in buying the book. There’s so much to learn using a 50 mm lens.
Bert,
I find that David duChemin has hit the right price point on eBooks at USD5. I’ve bought four of his books at this price. Whereas I’ve passed on other photographers’ eBooks that I equally admire, but have been asking for significantly more.
Hi Bert,
Great pictures !, great idea behind the pictures ! , and I buy your book, if it’s a paper one
Werner
Hi Bert,
thanks for sharing this wonderful project.
I’m a 50mm lover.
I would definitely buy your e-book. Danny.
Great stuff – thanks for the inspiration. You inspired me to get the 35mm f1.8 for my D90 and it is great fun!
Great work, Great work! I would buy the book as soon as it hits the (e)stores. I do have one question tho, what software did you use for the 50/50 project to make the slideshows?
Thanks for the inspiration!
Thx all, I guess I should start writing that book then.
@Léon: I did it in Final Cut Express
Awesome!
I am so inspired!
XOXO
I see on day 50 a 1Dmk4!
Fantastic set of images. I loved them all, very inspiring!
Thx
@Josh: On the last day of the project there was a launch party for the 1DIV
Thanks for all the inspirational images, really enjoyed viewing your shots. I am a novice just finding my way into photography and I love how you have captured everyday images. I do not seem to have those same skills as yet but your images inspire! I am now looking into my first 50mm prime lens because of your blog. Thanks again….. and yes the book would be great, would prefer it on my coffee table!
