Winter Walk

We get to see some snow pretty much every winter in Belgium but most often that is limited to a couple of days here and there. This winter we got already two pretty lengthy snow stretches (for Belgium). People even get used to it and don’t crash their cars anymore when driving over a snowball. I actually like the snow, beats those rainy, windy winters. But now the snow started to melt at a fast pace, I’m also looking forward to spring because I’m experiencing a bit of the winter blues. I need light, sun and warmth to get my energy levels back to normal.

Getting outside is the only thing that helps, so when fellow photographer Kristof asked me to join him and his friends for a short photowalk, I dragged myself out of my office chair, left all the work at home and enjoyed just being outdoors.

All the pictures where taken with just my 5D mkII and the 50mm except for the last four images, who were shot on my Hasselblad with the 80mm.

Is that the 4-strobes softbox you got there? Sure looks like it. I’ve been thinking of buying one myself, mostly for outdoor use. If it is can you recommend it?

    thanks

@Lars: It’s not mine, it’s Kristof’s. I know he uses it with 3 speedlights to overpower the sun in his cycling photography, here’s his website: http://www.kramon.be/

Uplifting! I’m myself in some kind of winter blues, all days gray in gray, too much to do and no impulse, children crying and almost too drained to comfort them. Your colors a kick in my butt; have to get the bloody lenscap off! Like esp the two ducks (009), great lines.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Hi Bert,

I’ve really been enjoying going through your blog posts. I like your no nonsense approach to topics such as lighting, leaving out the scientific jargon. Like you, I know what works for me as a photographer, but I’m not great at explaining it in complicated terms.

I really like your Hasselblad portraits with Lut, your winter walk was excellent, you get some really strong tones in the sky this winter and your 50/50 project really inspired me to get a prime lens again. I recently sold my 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 as I hadn’t been using them, just my 24-70 2.8L for work, I have been thinking about the 50mm 1.2L for a while now and may just have to get it…

    Thanks

    Will
