A Holga View of Cullera
Walking around at a congress for professional photographers with a 25 Euro plastic toy camera, provokes some strange looks sometimes. I only had time to shoot one roll of Kodak Portra 160NC film (medium format). Looking at the very particular look the Holga gives these pictures, I should have shot a lot more frames. It’s not that these are great pictures, but I still like them.
The first picture was shot from my hotel room balcony and all the others were shot during a 15-minute walk.

Great shots Bert.
It’s so true you can’t fake these feels with postprocessing. I like square images more and more like it makes more sense and gives a more confortable feel to look at.
The two last images are my favorites, nice compositions and colors.
Next stunt: taking an old typewriter with a hand-painted apple logo to Steve Job’s next keynote speech.
Thx
@Jasper: I’m getting away from the 2/3 format more and more
@Bart: I’ll glue a real apple to the typewriter
Nice images. Just yesterday I dusted off my Holga and stuffed a roll of B&W 400 in it. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great shots Bert. I love the nostalgic feel that the camera gives…provokes all kinds of memories.
Thanks for posting.
Best wishes to you and yours,
Glyn
beautiful atmospheres – i was considering getting a holga a while ago, but i never saw one for 25 bucks – looks like they all cost 40 or more, which is definitely on the edge for a plastic toy
Thx Guys:
@Tim: Haven’t shot any B&W yet except for a test shoot to see how the Holga works in combination with studio flash.
@Glyn: I also love that nostalgic look
@Moritz: I got mine for 25 EUR (excl. VAT) from fotoimpex.de
Hi Bert,
THank for intro me this Holga toy camera , it open my eye to see the world in other direction..
Which model are you using on this ? maybe i can get one of this in malaysia to shoot some weird pic.
Hi bert. i just happen to come across your blog coz it has the word holga in it. hehe
i think u have a pretty good holga that gives u pretty balanced vignetting. mine does not promises such effect all the time. but i would sure like to discuss on holga more with you. of late, i have left my holga collecting dust, and have been entertaining LC-a for the past one year plus
mghong, in malaysia is easy to get holga. unlike fisheye2 which always happen to be out of stock. u can check on lomokids.com. a bunch of malaysian kids who are passionate about lomography
they will tell u where to get it.
@mghong: thx, I use the classic model (with hotshoe).
@rafiqa: Thanks, I guess the word Holga is good for SEO then
I sometimes start to think that my Holga is actually a bit too good for a Holga. Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out later.
Great pictures as always! Love reading your blog.
Nice Toycam shots!
Been experimenting with the Holga since 2007 and doing strobist kind of portraits with it is real fun!
