“Bert likes to play but not by the rules. He wants to have fun and is a master in talking others into his crazy adventures.”, that’s what a school councilor once said about me. And he added: “That’s why we’ll expel him from school”. I’m not sure if I should have seen that as an encouragement, but I did anyway.

Fast forward to some 19 years later and I’m a 35 year old photographer from Belgium, shooting pictures while living my dream. Although I know the rules, I don’t feel limited by them when I play with light, location, gear and talent. I love what I do whether I’m working alone or cooperating with large team on an epic project.

I may have been a bad fit for the Belgian school system but I feel strongly about education and sharing information. I’ve been teaching workshops and doing speaking engagement in many different countries and I love to share my knowledge and ideas over the internet.

Making images is my passion but my family is my life. I’m a single dad with three fantastic kids. Kobe, Maya and Noa make me realize what’s really important in life.
