Remember the shoot I did with Ann to test out some new lights? Ann wasn’t the only person who volunteered to be a guinea pig in the lab of crazy lighting professor Bert. Chana was our second model for the test session. Over a year ago she was a very nervous client who wanted to have some nice pictures of herself. She was shy, a bit uncertain of herself but willing to overcome her fears and throw herself into the shoot. A while ago she volunteered for another test shoot and I couldn’t help to notice how the shy girl had transformed into a much more confident woman. Maybe it’s a pretentious thing to say, but I’d like to think that our first shoot played a minor part in that transformation.
I enjoyed photographing Chana again. The courage to overcome fears, the confidence to be yourself and the willingness to experiment are the greatest gift a portrait photographer can receive.
