XF33mm F1.4 - Elke

XF33mm F1.4 - Elke

My original idea for the project with the new Fujinon 33mm F1.4 was to shoot portraits of old friends, people who have left a mark on my life but that I don’t see very often. Due to a tight deadline, I couldn’t photograph as much people as I wanted but maybe I’ll just continue the series when opportunities arise.

Let me introduce you to Elke:
Blog, this is Elke.
Elke, this is a bunch of fine people that look at my pictures and read some of my words.

Elke is actually Carl’s daughter, so I’ve known her for more than a quarter of a century as well. When we met, I was legally an adult and she was only a kid. But every conversation we ever had proved that she was by far the wisest of the two of us. I’ve always enjoyed Elke’s positive outlook and out-of-the-box thinking.

In the last 20 years we’ve only met a few times during reunions and exchanged a couple of words on Facebook. But time apparently has very little impact on old friendships. She invited me into her home to help me with my XF33 portrait project, and it only took 20 seconds to erase 20 years.

I feel like I could have done much better in the photography department. But maybe that’s not the point. Picking up the conversation where we left it two decades ago is more important than any picture. I still might ask Elke for a rematch though to repair my photographic pride ;-)
