Gravel - Testing the Fujifilm X-H2s

Gravel - Testing the Fujifilm X-H2s

A while ago, Fujifilm Belgium asked me if I wanted to test their new flagship camera, the X-H2s. To challenge the camera and myself we organised a shoot with a group of gravel bikers. The goal was to make some test pictures, a short film about gravel biking and a behind-the-scenes video.

Let’s start with the short film:

And if you want to take a look behind the scenes and hear my impressions about the camera, check the video below:

There’s also an X-story about my experiences with the X-H2s on the Fujifilm website. I think it’s only in Dutch and French.

It’s pretty challenging to manage making a short film, a behind-the-scenes video and pictures at the same time. Luckily I had my friend Bastiaan Blockmans with me to shoot the bts-video and keep me on track, while Kim took care of the all important catering.

There wasn’t much time for actual photography. I mainly concentrated on testing the autofocus. Here’s a quick test with the (also brand new) XF150-600. Like I said, I didn’t have the time to really test this lens but it performed flawlessly. I was also surprised with how light it was for such a long lens. And the AF didn’t skip a beat despite the helmets, sunglasses and challenging lighting conditions.

I also took some pictures with the XF33mm F1.4 because autofocus tend to struggle more with fast moving nearby subjects. I think I shot all those images wide open and again, the AF was impressive.

A big thanks to the team of Fujifilm Belgium. I really appreciate how they just let me do my thing. Fujifilm’s Tom helped out on the shoot and made a really cool set of behind-the-scenes pictures.

It was a busy day and there was plenty of work before and after. But the best crew and a fun and patient cast made it a very enjoyable experience. Thx boys and girls.

In the mean time I received my own X-H2s, so expect more about this beast in the future. If you have any questions, feel free to put them in the comments.
