Bastogne War Museum
I’ve always had an interest and a fascination about war, especially World War II. Also I believe our children need to know about it too. The past is important for the future. So on a day off, we drove to Bastogne to visit the Bastogne War Museum.
The museum experience is rather modern and well done. An audio guide takes you through the whole Battle of the Bulge through four intertwined stories of a young boy, a teacher, a German soldier and an American soldier. I strongly believe in telling the big story through the small stories and the curators clearly agree with me. All of us, aged from 11 to 46 found ourselves immerged into the stories. There’s a lot more to see and read in the museum (maybe even too much for some).
The nearby memorial is also worth a visit. I’m always impressed when an architect manages to create a certain mood with some pieces of stone. The atmosphere is so serene that not even the kids had any impulse to disturbe the calm.
Definitely worth a visit!
