Free flow Annabel
Just a camera, a lens, a friend and an hour of spare time. That’s all I need to be a happy photographer.
I know, technically I took 2 cameras but for this shoot the X100V was just a prop. Annabel is a great make-up artist and I love having her in front of the camera too. She took up photography as well, so I figures a camera as a prop would be a good idea. She shoots this ugly Canon, so I just had to bring a camera that matches her own good looks. :-)
For some reason, I’ve been a bit obsessed with manual lenses lately. And I wanted to see how the 7Artisans 35mm F0.95 would do as a portrait lens. So I’ve shot every picture in this post with this cheap yet fast lens mounted on my trusty X-Pro3
I shot pretty much all the pictures wide open at F0.95 which is a bit of a challenge. The depth of field is razor thin but with a bit of practice and patience it’s definitely not impossible. After shooting with this lens for a while, I figure I nail focus about 80% of the time. And it’s refreshing to learn to accept that a picture can still be fine when the focus is a little bit off.
Manual focus with such a wide aperture forces you to be very deliberate in the way you shoot and direct the model. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Thx Annabel for braving the cold and for being you.
