Dion Trip

When I was cleaning up my archive, I came to the conclusion that there are way too many images just gathering virtual dust on my harddrive. Some of them have been shared on Instagram, but that’s such a fleeting medium. So I’m going to make an effort to share a bit more on the blog, starting with some images from earlier this year, like this “workation” in the Ardennes where we finally got some snow.

We left for the Ardennes after a day at the home office, so we arrived pretty late. Just enough time left for a meal, a bath and a bit of relaxation.

The next day we slept in and then went looking for snow. We don’t get much snow where we live but usually we get at least a couple of days of the fluffy white stuff, but not this year. The south of this tiny country has a bit more elevation and had some snow the days before. By the time we got to the Ardennes, it looked like we were late to the party. There was only snow left on the highest parts and it was melting fast. Determined to experience the sensation of crunching snow under our boots at least once this winter, we jumped in the car, looking for snow.

It was hard to find spots to find the car without getting stuck in the mud but we managed to make some micro excursion in the wet snow.

The next day, I had work to do so I’ve set up my office in our cabin. I really enjoy working in a different place with a different view every now and then. We had little daylight left after the office day, so we decided to go and explore the nearby town of Beauraing, a catholic pilgrimage site.

Although I went through the typical catholic rites of passage, I don’t consider myself religious. I respect people who are religious, whatever god they worship. But personally I see it more as a cultural thing. And in case of this little town, I must admit it’s a bit of a curiosity and an ecomony.

When we got up on the third day, we were greeted with an unexpected thin layer of fresh snow. The snow kept falling while I tackled some admin work. I decided to keep the rest of the todo-list for the evening and we went out for a long walk.

The next morning it was time to head home but not before a final little hike.

TECH INFO

I wanted to shoot with my then newly acquired 7artisans 35mm F0.95 on my X-Pro3. I also took my trusty X100V with me as a weather sealed backup. Because it was so wet, I ended up shooting a lot more with the X100V than I anticipated. Since then, I’ve shot a lot more with the 7artisans lens, maybe I’ll do a review. Let me know in the comments if you would like to see that.
